Temple Art & Architecture

This course offers a historical overview of temples in India and especially South India for last two millennia. With Hindu temples at the focus, Jain and Buddhist temples will also be looked into. Role of temples as seat of learning, art, religion and spirituality will be explored. Significant themes like images, symbolisms, rituals, iconography, sacred spaces, architectural styles etc. will be introduced briefly to the students during the course of their study along with visit to temples.
