Sustainable Development: Challenges & Prospects

The course intends to provide a forum for examining the developmental ethos of India. While the social, cultural and ecological impacts of conventional development makes it imperative to seek sources and sustainable alternatives, roots of such alternatives and practices can still be seen in India.

The course commences with the developmental heritage of ancient India and extends upto the review of impact of liberalization, globalization, economic slow-down of 2008 and the developmental challenges faced by India and the solutions it has sought. The objective of the course is to enable the students to critically examine the dominant discourses, paradigms and practices of development in the context of India particularly and the world in general and thereby enlarge their perspectives on progress and development.
