Professor Shrinivasa Varakhedi, (Ph.D), recipient of president’s award “Maharishi Badarayan Vyas Samman” currently working as Dean of Karnataka Samskrit University, Bangalore is scholar of international reputation. Earlier he was the Director of Sanskrit Academy, a leading Post Graduation Research Institute & Director of Osmania University, Hyderabad. He is a traditionally trained Sanskrit Scholar with a good exposure to modern technology. He has two post graduation degrees in Sanskrit and Indian Philosophies apart from a traditional degree in Nyaya Philosophy. He has been awarded Ph.D by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Deemed University, New Delhi for his research thesis on “Knowledge Representation of Navya Nyaya and western logic”. He has done a two years research program in NLP in IIIT-Hyd.
He has spent about ten years in teaching and research in traditional shastras and in interdisciplinary areas like computational linguistics. His contributions include design and planning of curriculum for a PG course in Shabdabodha and Natural Language Processing. He has been editor of the Sanskrit version of Conference proceedings of International symposia on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics. In recognition of his interdisciplinary research, he has been awarded “Vyas Badarayan Samman” by the President of India in 2007.
He has successfully coordinated many mega research projects – Sanskrit-net, Vachaspatyam, SHMT Project and so on. He has organized more than 10 National Seminars and workshops. He has more than 25 books (edited & translated) and 50 papers to his credit.
He has delivered many lectures in UGC Refresher Courses, Workshops in many universities. He has been invited as Visiting Professor to Jadavpur university, Ravindra Bharati University, Vivekananda University, IIIT-Hyderabad and Chinmaya International Foundation, Kerala. He is member of many academic and social institutions and Board of studies of Universities. He is also leading an educational and research initiative Satyatirtha Foundation, Bangalore as it’s Hon. Director.
